Location is always key when searching for accommodations for our travels, so also during our recent trip to Amsterdam. We checked in to the DoubleTree by Hilton next to Amsterdam Central Station.
About DoubleTree by Hilton Amsterdam Central Station
When location and comfort are key to you when searching for accommodation, then stop searching! The DoubleTree by Hilton Amsterdam Central has the perfect location, right in the centre of the city and next to Amsterdam Central Station, at just a 5 minute walk. The famous Dam Square and Royal Palace are just a 10 minute walk from the hotel, and the Museum Square can be reached by tram, which takes about 15 minutes.
With a waterfront location the hotel offers amazing canal views. So when booking, make sure to book city or canal view rooms, it’s worth it. Their rooms offer floor to ceiling windows which makes you able to enjoy your views to the fullest.

Lobby Bar
Did you know that this DoubleTree by Hilton hotel actually has a library? Well it does, and in fact, it’s the only Dutch library that is open 24 hours a day. Its location? The Lobby Bar!
It’s the perfect place for meetings or just reading a book or newspaper. You can enjoy snacks and beverages from the bar while relaxing in this lovely area of the hotel.
City Cafe
City Café is your place to be for breakfast. They offer both buffet breakfast and a la carte menu. Many items are served at the buffet breakfast, but you can also order eggs and pancakes from the menu, which will be served at your table. The perfect combination to create your perfect breakfast.
Eastwood Beer & Grill
The Eastwood Beer & Grill restaurant is located on the ground floor of the hotel, so in Summer it has a lovely outdoor terrace, right next to the canals.
Enjoying a drink or meal with canal views is so much better. They offer grilled meat, fish and vegetarian dishes, along with local and international beers.
SkyLounge
The best part of the hotel, for sure! Located on the 11th floor of the hotel is the SkyLounge. It offers truly amazing views over the historic city and the IJ river.
SkyLounge is one of the best rooftop bars in Amsterdam and a unique spot to discover the city from a great height. It’s an award winning rooftop bar, voted the public’s favorite hotel bar in Amsterdam for four years in a row now.
Reason enough to check this place out and they also serve delicious food up here.
During the day it’s a super relaxed place to check out the views and enjoy a lunch with views over Amsterdam. Later in the evening, and at night the SkyLounge serves the most colorful and delicious cocktails you can think of, best enjoyed with those amazing Amsterdam city views.
Starbucks
Probably equally as good as the SkyLounge is the fact that this hotel has a Starbucks on site! Truly, nothing better than a Starbucks at your hotel. Start your day with a freshly brewed coffee, drinks or pastries. They also have some merchandise and souvenirs, to bring home that Starbucks Amsterdam souvenir.
Suite Room 610
We were given Suite 610, a larger room including bedroom, bathroom and separate living room, and canal views from both the living room and the bedroom. Check out the rates of this suite.
A relaxed place to come back to after exploring a busy city like Amsterdam, and being able to just sit, relax and take in the views and watch the night fall in Amsterdam.
The Cookie
Something I liked a lot was the hot DoubleTree Chocolate Chip Cookie we were offered upon check in. Definitely a great way to welcome your guests! You can purchase more cookies if you really like them at the reception, where they also sell a book on this cookie, which actually includes the famous recipe. So you can make it at home any time.
Join the Pipe
I like it when hotels contribute to a better world and environment. The DoubleTree also contributes. At the reception area they have a tap where you can get water for free as often as you want. You can refill your own bottles there, and you can purchase a Join the Pipe bottle for just 5 euro.
Overall review DoubleTree by Hilton Amsterdam Central Station
Checking in to the DoubleTree wasn’t as smooth as it should be. There were some problems with our room. In the end they solved everything perfectly, while letting us enjoy a complimentary drink on the terrace.
After we were given the key to our room we were also given a VIP voucher, which I had never heard of! I was told to guard it with my life, as I could use this VIP voucher for literally anything I liked. Basically it meant that I could go to any bar, restaurant, SkyLounge, Starbucks, order what I wanted and it was all on account of the hotel. I have to admit, I felt really special and totally VIP!
With the amazing canal and city views, from your own room or from the award winning SkyLounge, and the most perfect and central location in Amsterdam, DoubleTree by Hilton truly is a great place to stay when visiting Amsterdam!
