The 97th Academy Awards will take place at The Dolby Theatre on Sunday, March 2nd, 2025. This venue, located at the corner of Hollywood and Highland, was previously known as the Kodak Theatre.

When viewing the Oscars and watching the glamorous red carpet arrivals, many people are unaware that this is actually an outdoor shopping and entertainment complex.  It’s now known as Ovation Hollywood. Attendees walk in front of admiring fans, paparazzi, and media on Hollywood Blvd. Storefronts are covered with black draperies, and signage is concealed with the Oscar insignia or other messages from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Even the Walk of Fame is carpeted over as guests walk through the corridor to enter The Dolby Theatre.

For the better part of 23 years, this has been the home of the Oscars. The theater’s renowned neighbors have also hosted the Oscars. The Roosevelt Hotel hosted the inaugural awards ceremony in 1929, and Grauman’s Chinese Theater hosted several ceremonies in the 1940s.

The majority of ceremonies have taken place at The Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in Downtown Los Angeles. In addition, both The Shrine Auditorium and The Biltmore, also located in Downtown Los Angeles, have hosted the event.

Other venues around Los Angeles that have hosted the Oscars include The Pantages and the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium. Additionally, the Coconut Grove at The Ambassador Hotel, though now demolished, was a notable hosting spot.

The Oscar after-party for the Governors Ball is held just above the Dolby Theatre and is completely closed to the public. However, the exclusive parties hosted by Vanity Fair and Elton John take place offsite in West Hollywood and Beverly Hills.
