San Clemente is a hidden gem along the Southern California coast that boasts beautiful beaches, charming boutiques, and delicious eateries. Whether you’re a local looking for a weekend adventure or a traveler seeking a sun-soaked escape, this coastal town offers the perfect blend of relaxation and excitement. You can find all of my favorite spots in the city below to make the most of your time in San Clemente. Be sure to let me know what I left off in the comments and you can watch the video below to see how we did everything.
Start your day at West Toast Cafe, a beloved local spot known for its delicious brunch options. Their avocado toast is a must-try, paired with a coffee or juice. With friendly service and a great vibe, it’s the ideal place to fuel up before a day of adventure. It is located right on the sand, so the views are also amazing.
After breakfast, hit the San Clemente Beach Trail, a scenic pathway that stretches along the coastline. This 2.3-mile trail offers breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean and the chance to spot surfers riding the waves or even catch a train cruising along the tracks. Perfect for a leisurely walk, with or without the stroller, or bike ride or run, it’s also dotted with benches where you can pause and soak in the stunning scenery.
Be sure to take some time to hang out at the beach after your walk.
Next, make a pit stop at the Rainbow Sandals Outlet, where you can find high-quality sandals that last long. Known for their comfort and durability, Rainbow Sandals are a beach essential, and the outlet offers a variety of styles and colors. They are a Southern California staple; I have been wearing them most of my life.
For lunch, head to Pedro’s Tacos, a casual drive-thru famous for its mouthwatering tacos. The laid-back vibe and outdoor seating make it a great spot to relax and enjoy your meal in the San Clemente weather. I usually go with the California Burrito, which has a little bit of everything in it, including french fries.
After lunch, head to Casa Romantica, a beautiful cultural center and historic estate perched on the bluffs overlooking the ocean. Explore the beautifully landscaped gardens and take in the breathtaking ocean views. Some of the property is under construction due to a damaging landslide, but it should be open again in the future.
Next, go to Trestles Beach, renowned for its consistent surf and beautiful sandy shore. While it is a 1-mile hike to get out there, it is one of the most famous surfing beaches in the world. I love relaxing on the sand and just watching the surfers when the waves are going off.
By now, you probably want some caffeine, so Sur Coffee is a delightful pick-me-up. This local favorite is known for its artisan coffee and inviting ambiance, perfect for kicking back after a day in the sun.
For dinner, we have two options.
Option one: treat yourself to a casual dinner at Pizza Port, where you can savor delicious pizza with a local twist. The lively atmosphere and extensive craft beer selection make it a perfect hangout spot, whether you’re in the mood for classic pepperoni or something more adventurous.
Option two: Stroll over to Fisherman’s Restaurant on the San Clemente Pier. This is the perfect place to enjoy a sunset dinner with stunning ocean views and fresh seafood offerings. I loved the poke bowl, and my wife loved the salmon tacos.
Finally, cap off your day with a leisurely walk along the San Clemente Pier. This iconic landmark offers breathtaking views of the coastline. If you are up for it, head down to the sand and watch the sunset from the beach. It is the perfect way to end the day.
If you are looking for a nightcap, don’t miss The Lost Inferno, an underground cocktail lounge known for its unique atmosphere and creative drinks. The speakeasy has a “Goonies” vibe and expertly crafted cocktails; what’s not to like?
If you are coming with a family, we love the San Clemente Inn; it has a great pool and daily activities.
So there you have it, our favorite way to spend the day in San Clemente; let us know what we left off in the comments!
