Museums, attractions, and cultural institutions across New York State are hosting Black History Month events, honoring and celebrating the great contributions and achievements of African Americans. Learn about the Super Soaker inventor or become a mathematician like Katherine Johnson at The Strong National Museum of Play’s Black History Month Celebration, experience music, art, and dance at the Brooklyn Children’s Museum‘s weeklong Black Future Festival, discover Harlem in the 1920s at the New York State Museum, celebrate Black music on an evening with the Harlem Chamber Players, and more this February.

Bundle up and chill out at the 1000 Islands Harbor Hotel’s annual ice bar celebration, where over 40,000 pounds of ice is meticulously carved into breathtaking sculptures, martini luges, and bars. Roaring fire pits, live music, hors d’oeuvres, local wine and beer, and fireworks are also on tap to ensure a truly grand time. This festive event is organized to benefit the North Country Troopers Assisting Troops. Tickets to the event are $38 plus taxes and fees. The hotel also offers room and ticket packages.

Get ready to celebrate athletes, winter, and the Adirondacks! The largest Olympic-style winter sporting event in the Northeast, the Empire State Winter Games feature a 700-mile torch relay, opening ceremony, and three full days of competitions! Witness hundreds of athletes ages 8-80 competing in cross-country skiing, figure skating, sled hockey, bobsledding, curling, adaptive winter sports, and more at venues across Lake Placid, Wilmington, North Elba, Tupper Lake, Harrietstown, Brighton, Paul Smiths, and Saranac Lake. Some events are free, but prices vary for ticketed events depending on the venue.

It’s winter carnival season in the Adirondacks! Enjoy 10 days of frosty fun and adventure at Saranac Lake Winter Carnival (February 6–15), featuring a massive Ice Palace, fireworks, parade, live music and more. The Lake George Winter Carnival (Saturdays and Sundays, February 6 – March 8) keeps things festive with outhouse races, polar plunges, horse and carriage rides, fireworks, and savory cook-offs along Canada Street. Outhouse races, human foosball, hockey and curling, broomball tournaments, sledding, and fireworks are all on the agenda for the Brant Lake Winter Carnival on February 14.

Adirondack Winter Pride is back for its second year in Lake Placid! Join members of the LGBTQ community, their families, and allies for three days of winter fun, community, and celebration.
