Wok Hei Is Vanishing From Hong Kong. My Mom Wanted to Taste It Again.
When in La Union, tourists and visitors realize that the trip is not just about the beaches and surfing and exciting activities under the sun anymore. La Union is now teeming with must-try restaurants, cafes, and food stalls that going on a food trip is now more than enough reason to drive up North.
If you’re planning your food trip itinerary for your next La Union road trip, you should definitely carve time for dinner at Curo.
Curo is a hidden gem restaurant tucked in San Juan, La Union; only a few minutes away from the beach. It’s also the in-house restaurant of Curbside Villa.
One of the things we absolutely love about Curo is that they offer amazing selections all day—from amazing brunch selections in the morning to sumptuous dishes and cocktails at night.

We got the chance to have an amazing dinner feast at Curo, and here’s how it went.
First off, the cozy and romantic vibe of the restaurant is great for dinner dates, but it’s also homey yet sophisticated enough for family feasts and nights out with the barkada. It truly is a versatile space that offers the perfect setting for any occasion. In case you want to really enjoy the fresh provincial air, you can also opt to seat in the al fresco dining area.
We started off our feast with a selection of soups—Wild Mushroom Soup (PHP 150), Butternut Squash Soup (PHP 150), and the Vegan Minestrone Soup (PHP 120) which offers a bit of a spicy kick. We loved the creaminess of the Butternut Squash Soup and the savory flavors of the Wild Mushroom, making it our instant favorite.
Next, we had the hearty salads: the BBQ Chicken Salad (PHP 480) and the Orange & Feta Salad (PHP 380).
The BBQ Chicken Salad features hearty greens, crispy wonton strips for added texture, and a rich BBQ and ranch dressing that gives that smokey, sweet, and savory BBQ taste. It’s quite filling for a salad!
The Orange & Feta Salad, on the other hand, offers a more fresh vibe with its orange vinaigrette drizzled on mixed greens, fresh orange slices, sliced baby radish, crumbled feta cheese, almond slivers, and dried cranberries. It’s refreshing, light, and offers a variety of textures with every bite.
Curo also offers a selection of pastas, including the classic Meaty Ragu (PHP 390), the indulgent Truffle Mushroom (PHP 480), and the scene-stealing Spaghetti Al Nero Di Seppie (PHP440)—a tasty squid ink pasta served with a hearty helping of deep fried calamari and grilled shrimp. This is definitely a must-try if you’re in the mood for seafood.
Moving on to the filling mains, Curo’s menu includes a wide variety of main dishes that will definitely satisfy whatever you might be craving for.
First, there’s the pork main (PHP 680) for the carnivores like me. The dish features slices of roasted crackling pork with crispy skin, topped with a delicious mustard sauce, apple bacon chutney, and served with a sweet potato mash and rice. The sauce add so much flavor to the perfectly cooked pork, and with the sweet potato mash and rice, it’s sure to be a filling dish, too.
If you’re looking for seafood (because you’re in Surf Town after all), you might want to try the Salmon Fillet (PHP 880)—a massive slab of perfectly cooked salmon served with delicious dill caper cream sauce, cherry tomato confit, and sautéed vegetables.
Vegans are also guaranteed to enjoy a great meal at Curo, especially with the Vegan Stack (PHP 380). This vegan option features a stack of roasted cauliflower and squash, served with salsa verde and rice. Fair warning: the Vegan Stack is massive, so be prepared to have a full belly after your meal!
And finally, there’s the highlight of our feast: the Australian Wagyu (PHP 4200). The massive steak (around 400-500 grams) is served on a hot stone slab so you can cook the steak to your preferred doneness. It’s also served with a platter of side dishes and sauces, including truffle potato mash, sautéed vegetables, steak sauce, and tomato jus. You can also use the provided salt and truffle butter to further season your steak however you like it.
Aside from the interactive tableside presentation, Curo’s steak is so obviously high quality, and it’s evident with every bite. It’s juicy and tasty, even if you’ve left it on the hot stone slab just a tad longer. It’s insanely good and would be the perfect choice if you’re planning on going on a date night at Curo.
Of course, what’s a great dinner feast without amazing drinks to enjoy with it?
Curo’s drink menu is just as extensive as their food selections—from artisan coffee concoctions and signature frozen drinks, to refreshing cocktails.
We’d recommend you try their bestselling Strawberry Basil Smash (PHP 330), a refreshing mixture of gin, real strawberries, and fresh basil. It’s so good that you’ll just feel like you’re enjoying a glass fresh strawberry juice. Remember to drink moderately!
There’s also the Peach Soju Tea (PHP 320), a mix of soju, black tea, and peach juice. It was one of our instant favorites because of how beautifully blended all the ingredients were. This just might be our new go-to ways of enjoying soju!
Curo’s beautiful variation of cocktails also makes it a must-visit spot for late-night drinks.
Your next La Union food trip will definitely be unforgettable with a visit to Curo—whether you want to enjoy a hearty brunch with bespoke coffee drinks or a satisfying dinner with late-night cocktails. You’re sure to appreciate how Curo can be your go-to restaurants in La Union no matter the occasion, and you’ll be sure to enjoy a delicious, satisfying, and world-class meal every single time. We won’t be surprised if Curo is on your La Union itinerary every time you visit.
