Fragments, flaws, growth, becoming — these are the themes at the heart of Unwanted Fragments, the latest exhibition now showing at CURIOCITY Kloof Street.
Created by Madonsela Art House, the exhibition explores the beauty hidden within the pieces of ourselves we often try to discard. Through layered prints, textured storytelling, and deeply personal reflections, artist Thokozani Madonsela invites viewers into a journey of surrender, healing, and transformation.

For those familiar with CURIOCITY Kloof Street, Madonsela’s work may already feel familiar. He is the artist behind the mural that fills our alleyway with colour and movement — a vibrant extension of his creative voice and storytelling practice. His connection to CURIOCITY runs even deeper, as he was the very first artist-in-residence at CURIOCITY Johannesburg when we first opened our doors, making this exhibition feel especially meaningful and full circle.

At its core, Unwanted Fragments reflects on the parts of life that don’t always go according to plan — the failed attempts, unexpected detours, unfinished ideas, and moments we once viewed as mistakes. Rather than hiding these fragments away, the exhibition asks us to reconsider them as essential pieces of who we are becoming.

Each work encourages viewers to pause and reflect on their own experiences of growth and identity, revealing the quiet power that can exist within imperfection. The result is more than an art exhibition; it becomes a conversation about resilience, self-discovery, and the beauty of becoming whole through broken pieces.
Art. Culture. Connection.
That’s the Curious way.
