We love our capital Amsterdam and love to visit it. We love discovering new places and activities. New hotels, new city districts or new must do experiences! Have you already seen our latest discoveries in Amsterdam? Restaurant Moon, Heineken Experience, award winning burgers at Ter Marsch & Co and the A’DAM LOOKOUT and Swing over the Edge.
During our most recent trip to Amsterdam we discovered new places again. For example, we ended up at the NH Amsterdam Leidseplein. Although we know the Leidseplein and surroundings well, we did not know this hotel at all. So it was great to stay here for a weekend.

History
We love it when a hotel has a beautiful history. That certainly applies to the NH Amsterdam Leidseplein. The NH Amsterdam Leidseplein has been an eye-catcher in Amsterdam and around Leidseplein for decades. The hotel was built for the 1928 Olympic Games in Amsterdam.
It is designed in the architectural style of the Amsterdam School, which was a common feature of early twentieth century buildings in the city. A very recognizable architectural style.
Just walk through Amsterdam, you will see that there are many more buildings in this style. Now, almost 100 years since the hotel was built, it still welcomes guests and is more vibrant than ever!
Location
In terms of location, you could hardly be better off than at the NH Amsterdam Leidseplein. Leidseplein, a big square, is the vibrant heart of the city. The hotel is located in the cultural heart of Amsterdam. Thanks to its location in the beautiful Museum Quarter, it’s only a short walk to the Van Gogh Museum and the Rijksmuseum. Right across the canal in front of the hotel you will find Amsterdam’s shopping district, cafes and restaurants.
The hotel is located only 100 meters away from the Vondelpark. Simply leave the hotel, turn right, and after a short walk you will see the entrance to the Vondelpark.
You have art, culture, shopping, history, everything right on your doorstep. The unique location offers everyone the opportunity to discover the atmospheric Amsterdam at their own pace.
Unfortunately the hotel has no parking spaces and public parking in the area is very expensive. Absolutely not recommended. We were with the car and parked it in the outskirts of Amsterdam. Then with a P&R public transport card we traveled to the center, just perfect and very cheap. You can park your car for just €6-8 per 24 hours.
You literally step out right in front of the hotel door. So, if you are looking for a centrally located hotel for a weekend in Amsterdam, look no further!
Rooms
The hotel has a total of 237 guest rooms. All rooms have a warm interior and hardwood floors. All standard rooms are equipped with modern amenities. Many of the rooms have city views.
Superior rooms have a seating area and bathrobes as an extra.
The hotel has recently been completely renovated and renewed. This is of course reflected everywhere, the rooms, corridors and public areas. On the floors there are prints of Amsterdam and the meeting rooms are named after city parks such as the Amstelpark, Beatrixpark, Rembrandtpark and the nearby Vondelpark. The city and its history are reflected everywhere in the hotel, and we think that is really cool to see!
We had a very spacious superior room during our stay. The room had a large bed and a large TV. There was also a sitting area and a desk, where you could work if necessary.
The bathroom was quite basic, but offers everything you need.
From our room we had a view of Leidsplein, you can’t get better than that!
Bar & Kitchen Copper
You don’t even have to leave the hotel for lunch or dinner. On the ground floor they have Bar & Kitchen Copper. It has beautiful views of the famous Leidseplein. This alone makes it worth sitting there for a while. They are open from 10.00 in the morning until late. It’s the perfect place for lunch and dinner, or to enjoy a cup of coffee and a snack, all while taking in the views of Amsterdam.
This bar has a luxurious and cozy appearance and invites you to take a seat.
Breakfast
Just before our stay, the NH Amsterdam Leidseplein introduced a completely new breakfast, namely more sustainable, healthier and for every taste. Not only NH in Amsterdam has implemented this, this applies to all 211 NH hotels, spread over 24 countries and 134 cities in Europe and America. They all present a renewed breakfast concept.
The renewed breakfast is carefully tailored to the wishes and needs of all guests – from conscious eaters with an active and healthy lifestyle to lovers of sweets and regional products.
Special attention is paid to the recognizability of allergens and to sustainability. One of the most striking innovations is the introduction of specialized breakfast bars with innovative and nutritious combinations. Examples of this are the yoghurt bar and the raw bar. We were of course extra curious about the renewed breakfast of the NH hotel. That certainly did not disappoint.
It is a very extensive breakfast buffet where the various innovations are clearly visible. You immediately notice that only fresh ingredients are used here. Artisanal and local is what they want to radiate, and that really works very well. As far as we are concerned, a very successful development. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and at NH hotels this is now also the tastiest and healthiest meal!
We had a great weekend in Amsterdam. The NH Hotel Amsterdam Leidseplein was the perfect base for us. All the highlights and must do’s in the city are in the direct vicinity of the hotel or within walking distance. Due to its central location it is also very easy to reach.
