Shut Up! Anne Hathaway Confirms “Princess Diaries 3”

Since 2019, “Princess Diaries” fans have been asking – “Is Princess Diaries 3 happening?” Finally, Anne Hathaway officially confirmed the much-anticipated Princess Diaries sequel!

On Instagram, Anne Hathaway announced her return to Genovia, using the film’s original soundtrack “Miracles Happen” as her background music in her latest post. It showed the iconic Princess Diaries actress herself counting to three, each number accompanied by a memorable “Shut up” quote from the first film.

First, she holds up one finger and says, “One,” followed by a clip of her younger self in the movie saying her iconic line, “Shut up.” Next, she holds up two fingers and says, “Two,” followed by a scene of her on-screen grandmother, Julie Andrews, saying, “Shut up!” Finally, she holds up three fingers and says, “Three,” before adding, “Shut up” and blowing a kiss to the camera. To top it off, she shares a screenshot of a news article announcing Adele Lim as the director of “Princess Diaries 3.”

In the caption, Anne Hathaway wrote, “Miracles happen [stars and crown emojis] Back to Genovia with [@adeleblim], [@disney] [@somewherepictures]. The fairy tale continues [red fire heart emoji].”

Known for her work in “Crazy Rich Asians,” and “Raya and the Last Dragon,” Adele Lim expressed her excitement towards the upcoming third installment of Princess Diaries. “As a diehard fan of the original Princess Diaries, I’m beyond excited to be a part of bringing the third iteration of this beloved franchise to life. We look forward to celebrating its core tenants of female power, joy, and mentorship with audiences worldwide,” Princess Diaries 3 director Adele Lim told Variety.

“The Princess Diaries” (2001) follows Anne Hathaway’s character, Amelia “Mia” Mignonette Thermopolis Renaldi, a high school student who discovers she’s a princess, the heir to the throne of Genovia. In the 2004 sequel, “The Princess Diaries: Royal Engagement,” Mia navigates her newfound royal life and faces challenges as she prepares for her upcoming wedding to be crowned as queen.
