Filipinos have been known for their heavy smartphone usage, and a recent study reaffirms this trend. The 2024 study conducted by Electronics Hub aimed to track individuals’ digital behavior and sleep patterns in the Philippines to understand their screen time habits better.
The findings are eye-opening: Filipinos spend a significant portion of their day glued to their screens. On average, Filipinos are apparently spending 31.45% (or 5 hours and 20 minutes) of their day using their phones. This puts the Philippines third on the list of countries that spend the highest percentage of each day on their mobile phones, following South Africa (31.72% or 5 hours and 15 minutes) and Brazil (31.57% or 5 hours and 19 minutes). This figure is just one part of the bigger picture.
When considering all screen types (including smartphones, tablets, computers, and televisions), Filipinos spend an average of 52.28% of their day (or 8 hours and 52 minutes) in front of screens. This statistic ranks the Philippines third globally in terms of total screen time usage as well, still next to South Africa (56.80% or 9 hours and 24 minutes) and Brazil (54.73% or 9 hours and 13 minutes). Worldwide, the average time people spend on their screens is 6 hours and 43 minutes.
