I can’t say enough good things about my visit to Turks and Caicos. From the accommodations at The Somerset on Grace Bay to the local food scene to the beautiful Caribbean, it was an incredible getaway from the cold winter.

About The Somerset on Grace Bay in Turks and Caicos

The Somerset is actually one of the best-rated resorts in the Caribbean. It boasts a 4-star rating from the Forbes Travel Guide. The resort offers 53 luxury villas from a 1-bedroom suite all the way to a 5-bedroom penthouse estate, with the option to stay beachfront, with a private pool, or a lush croquet lawn.

Grace Bay is ranked as the world’s best beach by Trip Advisor, featuring world-class diving and snorkeling thanks to the world’s third-largest coral reef.

The change of scenery gave me an incredible morale boost, but this was actually a working vacation. The Somerset has incredible remote office accommodations and made it simple for me to continue to get work done while also enjoying the marvelous views of the water.

When I wasn’t working, I was able to enjoy the grounds of the resort. I took a relaxing float in the zero-edge infinity pool, did some yoga and pilates, and had a fun afternoon on a jet ski. Can’t work all the time, am I right?

What really sets The Somerset apart is their top-notch luxury amenities like pre-arrival grocery shopping, private chef, in-suite spa services, and more. We even got the chance to cook with Chef Nik of Crackpot Kitchen.

One thing that I thought was really cool was how the pools light up at night. They use recycled glass tiles imported from Spain that absorb the sun all day and glow at night. The Somerset is the only luxury resort in the Caribbean with these LEED-certified tiles.

The villas feature spacious ocean views and wrap-around terraces with large windows so you never miss anything. The croquet lawns are meticulous and the restaurants on the resort are exquisite. The Somerset exudes luxury, space, and style.

The Local Food Scene

The local food scene in Turks is amazing. Everything is so fresh – which is easy to believe when Turks and Caicos have 350 days of sunshine a year. I really enjoyed the local tour sponsored by The Somerset. We went to a variety of places around the island. I tried conch for the first time as well as all kinds of delicious fresh seafood, fruit drinks, and rum.

We did some traveling around North Caicos as well. Turks and Caicos is actually made up of 40 different islands and cays in an archipelago. The Somerset is located on Providenciales specifically, but each area has its own beauty and history to explore.

Back at the resort, I rested comfortably in my villa, with incredible sunset views over the Caribbean. I could relax on my balcony, enjoy the food ready for me in the luxury kitchen, or head out for happy hour specials at the pool and the beach BBQ after.

There are so many shops and restaurants within walking distance of the resort or easily accessible via bike, taxi, or rental car. Also nearby are an 18-hole championship golf course and tennis courts. No shortage of entertainment – on and off the resort!

I didn’t travel with my kids this trip, but The Somerset has amazing accommodations for families and children including the Caicos Kids Club, in-room babysitting, and kid-friendly pool.

If you’re looking for a fun, friendly, and delicious family vacation, couples retreat, or simply a change of scenery for your remote office, I couldn’t recommend The Somerset on Grace Bay enough. I’ll be back soon for sure.
