Hans im Glück was founded in Munich in 2010. The chain now has 83 branches in Germany, ten in Switzerland and two in Austria. The name of the restaurant Hans im Glück (Happy Hans) refers to a fairy tale by the Grimm Brothers. In this fairy tale Hans trades fewer and fewer valuable items and eventually becomes happier than ever without having any possessions. That’s the foundation of the success story of Hans im Glück. Good company, welcoming environment, excellent service, great food and drinks, all for a fair price. What more do you need for a fantastic night out?

Originally a German chain, Hans im Glück now has more than 80 branches throughout Germany.When you’re in Germany you never have to drive far to end up at a Hans im Glück. With ten branches in Switzerland and two in Austria, they are also quite well represented in these countries.
Recently, Hans im Glück has expanded to the Netherlands, where the first branch has already opened and the second is in the pipeline.
New in Amsterdam
The popular international chain continues to make progress as it opened its first Dutch branch in Amsterdam. This strategic expansion at the Rembrandt Square in Amsterdam marks the start of international growth. Walking into the new Amsterdam branch feels like walking into a birch forest. The interior and decoration of this establishment has been really well thought out. You immediately feel welcome and at ease. Feel free to visit and enjoy incomparable culinary moments in a casual atmosphere.

Hans im Glück at Rembrandtplein in Amsterdam is the perfect spot for both tourist and locals. You can hardly imagine a better location. The vibrant Rembrandt plein is one of the most iconic squares in Amsterdam. It’s full of cafes, theatres, bars and nightlife. And in the middle of all of that is now also Hans im Glück.

After the opening of the first branch in Amsterdam, Hans im Glück quickly moves on, because the second is already under construction. The second Dutch branch will open soon in the heart of The Hague’s city center, located in the Passage. The Passage offers a unique shopping experience, amazing historic architecture and a very lively atmosphere. This is where you will soon find Hans im Glück.
It’s a burger restaurant so of course there are burgers on the menu. But there is more than just burgers. To start, you can choose your own bun. You can choose between Sourdough, Multigrain, Brioche or no-bun. In addition, they offer many different choices of hamburger types. You can choose from vegan, vegetarian, chicken fillet, smash and beef burgers.
If you don’t like the burgers on their menu, you can choose to create your own burger. Besides their famous burgers they also offer loaded fries, salads and bowls. Also absolute recommendations, although the burgers are truly super tasty!
Our experiences
As mentioned, we had never heard of Hans im Glück. We were very curious about this modern hamburger chain. They certainly did not disappoint. As soon as you step inside, you really step into another world. Everything has been thought about. The interior is awesome and very inviting.
The most important thing is of course the food. And although it is basically just a hamburger restaurant, they do offer really unique and especially super tasty hamburgers. Their menu offers so much choice that we had serious decision stress when choosing our burger. We decided to complete our meal with one of their delicious loaded fries, which was a great decision.
